Quest Vitamins, a leading manufacturer and supplier of vitamins and health supplements, has launched Carnozin, a brand new health supplement that contains a unique combination of zinc and L-carnosine that can help relieve gastric discomfort and inflammation.

These two nutrients work together by shielding and repairing the mucosal lining, protecting against ulcers and supporting the body’s defences against H. pylori infection. For this reason, it's recommended that Carnozin is taken together with any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen or Diclofenac.

Key benefits

  • Gastric protectant
  • Increases mucosal secretions to enhance protection of the stomach lining
  • Anti-inflammatory action
  • Antioxidant
  • Increases microcirculation
  • High strength
  • Suitable for vegans and vegetarians
  • Medicinal adjunct to conventional triple drug therapy used to treat peptic ulcers

Between 80 and 90% of peptic ulcers are caused by the H. pylori bacteria. Conventional treatment is a course of two strong antibiotics to kill off the bacteria and a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) that reduces levels of acid produced to aid healing of the stomach lining. H. pylori is notoriously difficult to eradicate so often several courses of treatments are needed. It can become resistant to the antibiotics meaning new ones have to be used each time. Adding Zinc carnosine as a co-prescription to the standard triple drug therapy increases the effectiveness of the treatment meaning quicker healing rates and reduced likelihood of antibiotic resistance occurring. This is commonly used in Japan where zinc carnosine was originally developed.

Gastro-protectant for those taking NSAIDs

Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen are used to reduce pain, fever and inflammation in a wide number of health issues. Users of NSAIDs are five times more likely to develop peptic ulcers or have damage caused to their stomach lining as they affect the production of protective gastric secretions.

Zinc carnosine has been shown to protect the stomach lining by reducing injury from NSAID use by as much as 75%. In addition it increases healing by encouraging the proliferation of cells needed for healing. This offers us the most widespread use for zinc carnosine because of the number of different people who take pain-killing medication. Anyone with chronic condition such as arthritis, long-term injuries, and migraines etc. who have to take NSAIDs could be offered Carnozin to reduce the risk of gastric damage.

Generic gastric health support

Zinc carnosine can also be used for non-ulcerated gut issues such as acid reflux or gastric inflammation; the healing actions can help reduce the pain caused by gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) or acid reflux in hiatus hernia. It has been shown to improve healing and reduce symptoms within a short space of time. Carnozin can also be used by those wanting to control their symptoms whilst reducing or weaning themselves off PPIs or OTC antacids.
