Published: 5-Jun-2018

For the third consecutive year, Firmenich has received a Gold rating from EcoVadis, establishing the company among the top 1% of all suppliers, as well as the industry leader in fragrances and flavours

Constantly raising the bar across its environmental and social performance, Firmenich improved its score from 75 to 82 points in the Gold category this year, firmly leading the pack, amongst the 45,000 companies rated by EcoVadis.

“Our Ecovadis gold rating score of 82% not only positions us as the leader of our industry, but also among the top 1% of the 45,000 global suppliers assessed,” says Gilbert Ghostine, CEO Firmenich.

“This gold ranking recognises the passion and hard work of our teams around the world and inspires us to keep raising our industry standards.”

“As a leading supplier in the flavour and fragrance industry, we are committed to delivering on our Pathways to Positive strategy, outlining how we can increase our positive impact and transparency across everything we do,” said Dr Bérangère Magarinos-Ruchat, VP Global Head of Sustainability.

“Reaching a Gold ranking, year after year, confirms we are consistently delivering on our strategy working as a One Firmenich team across all our businesses globally.”

“We are very pleased to see Firmenich setting the example for their industry, striving for increased performance year after year,” said David McClintock, Marketing Director at EcoVadis.

“Their commitment to excellence and ability to continually raise the bar sends an extremely positive signal to their customers and internal stakeholders that responsible practices are essential for their business.”

EcoVadis evaluated Firmenich’s sustainability performance according to 21 criteria and four categories, cutting across, environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement practices.

Firmenich’s sustainability policies, initiatives and results were analysed following international CSR standards including the Global Reporting Initiative, United Nations Global Compact, and ISO 26000.

In 2018, EcoVadis assessed more than 45,000 companies in 180 categories and 150 countries. This year, Firmenich achieved an EcoVadis score of 82 out of 100 points, placing it in the top 1% of suppliers in the industry segment — a “gold” status rating.

Advancing its commitment to the most ethical, traceable and sustainable supply chain, Firmenich is keen to further improve transparency across its operations.

The company is actively looking into expanding the use of the EcoVadis methodology to its suppliers and is exploring collaborative approaches to simplify reporting mechanisms for them.

In 2018, complementing its environmental and social responsibility, Firmenich published its first Human Rights Policy Statement to identify and manage its impacts across its operations and business relationships in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Firmenich will continue to engage with its stakeholders to support and promote human rights.
