Published: 5-Oct-2022

Individual laboratories can assess the utility of the information for themselves

The Global Organisation for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) has issued a new Industry Advisory: “Industry Advisory on accurate quantification of EPA, DHA and Total Omega-3 content of omega-3 oils by GC-FID.”

The advisory contains practical approaches and tips from analytical chemists with the highest and sustained, multi-year proficiency in EPA and DHA quantification in the annual AOCS GOED Nutraceutical Oils Laboratory Proficiency Program. The document is meant to provide useful advice for laboratories to improve their accuracy of EPA and DHA quantification in omega-3 oils and contains information that is not normally provided in official method descriptions.

Individual laboratories can assess the utility of the information for themselves. The advisory complements information in GOED’s Guidance Documents that provide helpful information around testing the quality of EPA/DHA omega-3 oils. GOED hopes that the new advisory will provide a stimulus for attaining further improvements in the accuracy of EPA and DHA quantification over the coming years.
