Herbalist & Alchemist celebrates 40th anniversary and announces expansion

When David Winston began selling the surplus extracts he was making for his own clinical practice to other practitioners, he named the endeavour to reflect the synergy that happens when herbs are skilfully combined: Herbalist & Alchemist (H&A)

Today, the company celebrates 40 years providing practitioner-quality herbal extracts throughout North America amid preparations to move to a larger facility by year’s end.

With David being an acknowledged world expert on adaptogens and author of the book Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina and Stress Relief, it’s no surprise that the company’s award-winning range of adaptogenic formulas and single herb extracts are considered some of the best in the world.

The company’s unique solid extracts, a somewhat rare product delivery form because of the expertise required to produce them well, are always in high demand; one of them, Hawthorn Solid Extract, was recently awarded Botanical Product of the Year by NutraIngredients-USA.

“I began making extracts for my practice because I couldn’t find the quality I wanted in the marketplace,” David said.

“As demand grew, it became clear that H&A needed a businessperson to run it while I focused on educating, writing, and formulating. I was fortunate to find Beth Lambert, who became my partner and CEO in 1995.”

“It’s been such an amazing journey to work with David and this fantastic staff, many of whom have been with us for many years,” said Beth. “Having the confidence of customers and knowing we make a difference in people’s lives and the environment gives me pride in what we do every day.”

The new location will increase capacity to accommodate growth in product demand and is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter.
