Independent trial confirms pain reduction benefits of NEM eggshell membrane product


A natural treatment option for osteoarthritis of the knee or hip for the broader European population

The eggshell membrane-based health ingredient NEM can help reduce pain, according to an independent clinical trial.

The product is manufactured by ESM Technologies, located in Carthage, MO in the US, which formed a joint venture with Stratum Nutrition in 2011 to advance the science behind eggshell calcium and eggshell membrane health ingredients.

The multi-centre trial conducted in Germany by Weber & Weber confirmed the rapid reduction in pain when participants took NEM. The six-centre study recruited 44 people with moderate, persistent knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. The participants were supplemented once daily with a capsule containing 500mg of NEM for 60 days and were evaluated at 10, 30, and 60 days.

The researchers found statistically significant reductions in pain after only 10 days, with nearly a quarter of the participants feeling at least a 30% improvement. This improvement continued to the end of the study with more than 59% of the participants rating NEM’s efficacy as good or very good.

The participants did not report any serious adverse events in the study and NEM was well tolerated. The researchers concluded that this trial validates the clinical results seen with NEM previously and that it provides a viable natural treatment option for osteoarthritis of the knee or hip for the broader European population.

The results of the study were recently published online in the Journal of Arthritis.
