Kappa Bioscience unveils first-in-class vitamin K2 MK-7 formulations book at Vitafoods 2016

Published: 9-May-2016

The LookBook showcases 117 market-ready product formulations, each with K2VITAL vitamin K2 MK-7 as the cornerstone ingredient

Kappa Bioscience, in partnership with ppm.Ingredients, has achieved a significant milestone in the dietary supplements industry with the publication of the K2 MK-7 LookBook (2016 edition), set to be launched at this year’s Vitafoods Exhibition, which takes place on 10-12 May in Geneva, Switzerland.

The LookBook showcases 117 market-ready product formulations, each with K2VITAL vitamin K2 MK-7 as the cornerstone ingredient, as well as articles, essays and information on vitamin K2 health and commercial benefits. Product concepts include 77 bone health, 31 heart health and 9 multivitamin formulations. Kappa and PPM have solved many of the challenges to commercial K2 adoption, and the 2016 LookBook offers the clearest path to date for brands to capitalise on the fastest growing health ingredient worldwide.

The vitamin K2 MK-7 LookBook contains innovative and market-ready product concepts, each suitable for custom tailoring and immediate product launch. Arranged as a fully cross-categorised product dossier, each formulation provides a blueprint for end-to-end K2 product creation, whether products are required in bulk, packed or as finished product, and with or without brand. The LookBook spans a whole range of nutraceutical product formats, 23 in total, from candy to capsule, tablet to syrup.

A first quarter prelaunch of the LookBook in Poland has yielded significant results, with all major Polish contract manufacturers and brands launching K2VITAL formulations from the LookBook into the market. Poland currently has more than 200 finished K2 products available, with at least three K2 products supported by television advertisements. The success of the LookBook in Poland demonstrates the speed to which K2 products can enter the market and the overwhelming consumer response.

Jörg Büttinghaus, Managing Partner of ppm.Ingredients, comments: 'After taking on K2VITAL as an exclusive distributor, we began to understand the market need for practical and action-oriented strategies to bring K2 products to market, but in time periods measured in weeks not months or years.' He continued: 'We created the LookBook because vitamin K2 MK-7 is set for explosive growth, and this book provides very specific, but fully customisable blueprints to allow brands to be first-to-market with innovative products.'

Vitamin K2 is an essential fat-soluble vitamin that directs calcium to the right places in the body. K2VITAL K2 MK-7, the superior form of K2, activates the osteocalcin proteins that incorporate calcium to bones (where it is needed), and the matrix-Gla proteins (MGP) that bind calcium to prevent deposits in arteries and smooth muscle walls (where it increases cardiovascular risk factors). Even a balanced diet does not provide us with enough vitamin K2, so it needs to be supplemented to enable our bodies to function as they should.

Most product concepts in the LookBook have undergone a degree of stability testing, showing outstanding results, as the source of vitamin K2 is K2VITAL from Kappa Bioscience AS – the leader in vitamin K2 innovation.

K2VITAL DELTA, which is pure MK-7 delivered in a unique double-coated microencapsulation, is the only market-proven solution suitable for all solid dosage forms presented in the LookBook. As all fat-soluble vitamins degrade with time, K2VITAL DELTA offers the only K2 MK7 stable in mineral and multi-ingredient formulations. Double-coated microencapsulation offers the best possible protection against the harshness of minerals such as calcium and magnesium, alkalinity, tableting pressures and general variations of ingredient qualities. All products are also supported by an ongoing stability programme, inclusive of core ingredients.
