Kappa achieves Non-GMO certification for K2 ingredient

The NON-GMO Project has awarded Kappa the certification for all K2VITAL MCC powder and MCT oil products produced globally

Kappa Bioscience, maker of K2VITAL vitamin K2 MK-7, has achieved non-GMO certification for all K2VITAL MCC powder and MCT oil products produced globally.

The final certificates for K2VITAL products produced in the US were granted in April through the non-profit NON-GMO Project organisation.

Genetically modified organism (GMO) avoidance is a growing consumer trend. GMOs are organisms whose genetic material has been altered through genetic engineering, typically to achieve a commercial benefit. Some consumers, nonetheless, prefer to be aware if certain products are created through a GMO process. Certification helps these consumers identify non-GMO products.

Non-GMO certification strengthens Kappa's market position, notably in North America. Currently 64 countries, including the entire EU trading bloc, require genetically modified foods to be labelled on products. This is not the case, however, for the US or Canada. NON-GMO Project is the leading third-party verification organisation in North America. GMO avoidance labelling is one of the fastest growing labels in the retail sector.

While non-GMO logo labelling is specific to Kappa's ingredient products, this certification paves-the-way for expedited application processes by finished product manufacturers regarding the K2 ingredient.

"Achieving non-GMO status was a priority for Kappa because many of our customers have consumers who are passionate about the GMO issue," explained Garnet Pigden, President Kappa US. "Certification of K2VITAL removes any doubt, allowing the consumer to focus on K2's important bone and heart health benefits and how K2 works with vitamin D3 to balance calcium in the body."

K2 is an essential vitamin which balance calcium in the body. K2VITAL activates proteins which incorporate calcium into bone and prevent calcification of vessels and arteries. New research demonstrates that vitamins D3 and K2 work synergistically for bone and cardiovascular health, each more effective in the presence of the other. Kappa's microencapsulated K2VITAL DELTA is the market leader for K2 plus-mineral formulations to preserve stability.
