Prenexus Health gets GRAS no questions letter for prebiotic

Published: 23-Aug-2019

The manufacturing process for the ingredient is soon to be certified organic and utilises only pure water without the need for any chemicals

Prenexus Health has received a “no questions” letter from the US Food and Drug Administration on its Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) notification for its xylooligosaccharide (XOS) prebiotic. Prenexus’s XOS prebiotic is accepted for use at levels up to a 2.4 g per day in a variety of food categories.

The notice has been published on the FDA's website.

"We're pleased that the FDA had no questions related to our GRAS notification for our XOS prebiotic," said Mike Bush, CEO of Prenexus Health. "This allows use of the ingredient in a range of food applications such as bars, ready-to-eat cereals and functional beverages, to name a few of the accepted categories."

Prenexus will be producing its XOS prebiotic from certified organic, non-GMO high-fibre sugarcane grown by the company on farms in the Imperial Valley, California. The manufacturing process, soon to be certified organic, utilises only pure water without the need for any chemicals.

Prenexus's XOS prebiotic will be available in the fourth quarter of 2019.

"The demand for prebiotic ingredients continues to grow," Bush said. "We're excited that our XOS prebiotic offers a low-dose, effective ingredient for food, beverage and supplement companies seeking to add the benefits of prebiotics to their products."
