Protecting the skin from blue light effects, a global strategy from Indena

Published: 7-Feb-2018

New data on the anti-blue ray properties of Indena Vitachelox will be presented at In-Cosmetics 2018 during the Innovation Seminar “Skin blue light protection - a global strategy” at the Technical Seminar Theatre No 1 on 17 April, 12:00-12:30

As well as pollution, blue light is affecting the body on a daily basis, having an important impact not only on eyes, but also on skin. Actually, sunlight is the main source of blue light and the exposure to these rays induces ageing like changes, mainly attributed to their ultraviolet components.

Nevertheless, indoor sourced blue light from LEDs, fluorescent lighting, flat screen TVs, computers, tablets, smartphones etc. has been recognised to have a damaging impact on the skin.

In particular, blue light has been observed to produce oxidative stress in live skin and to accelerate the ageing processes mainly by inducing a molecular damage to skin proteins.

Vitachelox, the selection of optimised botanical compounds from Indena, is able to meet these needs. After demonstrating its ability to act as an anti-pollutant, skin protectant, free radical scavenger and chelating agents on various mechanisms triggered by the most common polluting agents, new clinical data following Vitachelox treatment showed a significant improvement in protein quality.

The safety profile and effectiveness of Indena extracts are supported by several experimental tests. The expertise and approach to research and innovation has always been the hallmark of Indena, leading the company to the production of the highest quality active ingredients of botanical origin for the pharmaceutical, health-food and personal-care sectors.

Indena has always had a sustainable approach to the environment. In 2013 the company established a programme for sustainable sourcing (SuSo). Detailed information on such a programme, achievements and future projects will be available at the Sustainability Corner during the three days of the show, and a specific presentation will be given 18 April, 11:00-11:30, in the same Corner.
