Sensus to expand chicory root fibre production

The company will also redouble its sustainability efforts with growers

Sensus, a producer of chicory root fibre, has revealed details of Cosun’s Unlock 25 strategy. A key part of this strategy involves expanding Sensus’ manufacturing capacity. The strategy is also said to support several key sustainability programmes.

Demand for chicory root fibre, a plant-based and prebiotic food ingredient, is expected by the company to continue to grow significantly the coming years. The ingredient can be used to improve taste and texture in plant-based food products while also enabling reductions of sugar and fat. In addition, this type of fibre has shown an ability to support a healthy microbiome while strengthening the gut and the immune system, Sensus says.

The Unlock 25 strategy also enables further investment across its sustainability programmes. Sensus says it will continue to partner with its growers to develop tools for sustainable chicory cultivation, such as mechanisation, robotisation, and automation.

“I am pleased to announce that Sensus’ dedication to expanding capacity reflects the longer-term vision and strategy from the Royal Cosun group. We remain committed to best serving our customers and growing the chicory inulin market worldwide,” said Iwan Blankers, CEO at Sensus.
