Valensa launches palmetto powder

For the first time, the health benefits of saw palmetto extract can be delivered in bars, shakes, gummies, and other applications

Valensa International has announced the launch of USPlus Saw Palmetto lipid extract. The product is made using a microencapsulation process, resulting in a virtually tasteless powder that also maintains the necessary high profile of fatty acids to deliver the proven health benefits.

Umasudhan C.P., Valensa’s CEO, commented: "This is the first-ever water-soluble saw palmetto extract in a powder that does not have the typical strong, pungent flavour."

The new form enables manufacturers to deliver the testosterone, urinary and prostate health benefits of the extract in a wider range of applications, such as bars, shakes, gummies, and other applications.

Florida-based Valensa will introduce its microencapsulated USPlus Saw Palmetto Extract at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California. The event takes place 5-9 March, 2019.

Studies have shown this extract supports urinary and prostate health, which affects one of every two men above the age of 50 years old. It helps with Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH), urinary tract issues (Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms), testosterone health, and also supports healthy hair follicles.

According to Stephen Hill, a Valensa scientist and VP of Quality and Product Development, an estimated three-quarter teaspoon of the powder would meet the daily recommended dose of Saw Palmetto Extract to acheive the promoted prostate health. Brands can go for optimal dose per serving based on application and intended benefits.

Hailed as a “Florida Treasure,” Saw Palmetto palms are native to Florida and produce berries, from which oil can be extracted when the berries ripen. These berries have historical relevance to Florida, where Valensa is based, and have been used by Native Americans for many years for their powerful health benefits.

Valensa, who pioneered the commercialisation of standardised Saw Palmetto Extract in the US market back in 2001, begins with a sustainable, wildcraft harvest of ripened berries. After drying, the berries go through a patented supercritical CO2 extraction process to produce a pure, solvent-free oil.

“The vertical integration of Valensa’s supply chain, from raw material supply through processing and manufacture of finished product is critical for consumers to know, so they can avoid buying adulterated imitations labeled as Saw Palmetto.” said the CEO.

Valensa’s USPlus Saw Palmetto Extract has most recently become part of the US Pharmacopeia Dietary Ingredient Verification Programme.
