biomega appoints Biorefinery Factory Manager

Chris Fredrik Simmenes joins from Mesterbakeren, one of Norway’s leading bakery chains

Salmon peptide developer biomega has appointed Chris Fredrik Simmenes as Factory Manager for the company’s flagship biorefinery in Skaganeset, Norway.

Simmenes joins biomega after working at Mesterbakeren – one of Norway’s leading bakery chains – for more than a decade. Beginning as a Shift Manager, he became an Expedition Leader in 2015 and was responsible for more than 60 employees at the company.

He was also part of the bakery manufacturer’s HACCP team, overseeing food production, HSE work, alongside planning and processing operations.

Stig Petersen, CEO at biomega, said: “It’s with great pleasure that we welcome Chris to our team. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Skaganeset biorefinery, his wealth of experience in dealing with regulatory requirements from Mesterbakeren will swiftly become an asset to us as we focus on improving our circular approach to upcycling salmon rest streams.

“With a background in teaching and experience in logistics management, Chris is a superb mentor and is already becoming a vital part of our team here in Norway.”

The company’s focus remains on investing in its patented technology process, enzymatic hydrolysis, which it says delivers 24/7 year-round production of salmon peptides, proteins, and oils for the petfood and human nutrition markets.

Alongside its Norwegian facility, the company will add a second biorefinery in Denmark to expand its manufacturing capabilities. Located at the Port of Hirtshals, the biorefinery is expected to open this summer.

Simmenes said: “I am truly grateful and humble to be welcomed by such a highly competent team at biomega. The company is continuously working towards its sustainable goals as a responsible manufacturer, therefore the decisions we make must be for the future of our planet, and I look forward to taking our operations to the next level.”
