DracoBelleTM Nu sd achieved self-affirmed Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status, opening new opportunities for functional foods and beverages in the US.
Mibelle Biochemistry’s innovative plant-based ingredient, DracoBelleTM Nu sd, derived from Moldavian Dragonhead (Dracocephalum moldavica), has achieved self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status in the United States. This decision was reached following a unanimous conclusion by a qualified panel of toxicology experts, who conducted a comprehensive evaluation of DracoBelleTM Nu’s safety data.
DracoBelleTM Nu sd is a clinically validated botanical collagen booster that supports skin health and anti-aging benefits. In a recently published placebo-controlled clinical study involving over 100 participants, a daily intake of just 100 mg significantly improved skin hydration and dermis thickness, confirming earlier research findings.
The GRAS status designation follows a rigorous review of safety data, based on multiple toxicology studies including a 90-day repeated-dose toxicity study in rats and a demonstrated manufacturing process with stringent quality control.
“Achieving GRAS reflects our commitment to rigorous safety standards and evidence-based innovation and underscores our dedication to provide high-quality, evidence-based ingredients for the food, beverage, and supplement industry,” said Dr. Torsten Grothe, Head of Food and Health at Mibelle Biochemistry.
This milestone allows manufacturers and brands to incorporate DracoBelleTM Nu sd into a wide range of functional food applications, such as gummies, shots, beverages, gels, and bars.
DracoBelleTM Nu sd is a new, more concentrated version of the popular collagen-booster DracoBelleTM Nu, which was first launched in 2018. It works by activating the body’s collagen synthesis through the anti-aging and longevity AMPK/FOXO pathway. This plant-based, vegan ingredient is water-soluble, easy to formulate, and features a mild lemon balm-like taste, making it ideal for use in beauty-from-within, collagen-boosting, and skin rejuvenation products.
“As suitable for vegan products, DracoBelleTM Nu is one of my most popular ingredients for beauty-from-within and anti-aging,” added Kristi Serena, Commercial Director U.S. at Mibelle Biochemistry.
“Obtaining GRAS status is a significant milestone that opens the door to new and exciting product applications across the food, beverage, and supplement industries.”
