Sneak peek: What's on GEA's stand at POWTECH 2019

The technology provider has revealed the equipment and solutions to be on display at the April trade show

GEA is gearing up for POWTECH 2019, the trade show for processing, analysis, and handling of powder and bulk solids that takes place in Nuremberg this April. Attending the press preview, the solutions and technology provider showcased a wide range of applications.

With the motto "Powerful change", GEA demonstrated that changes and developments are the heartbeat and drive of growth. "Without this, any further development is impossible," the company said.

GEA presented the following technology and solutions at the press event:

Rotary presses for all applications

GEA's R-series rotary tablet presses allow for extremely short cleaning and format changeover times and the tool-free disassembly and reassembly of all removable parts.

The R55 is a versatile industrial rotary press for a wide range of powder product processing applications, including nuclear fuel pellets, hard metals, catalysts, automotive parts, batteries and confectionery. The unit can be supplied with a number of optional features to improve and expedite the tablet production process and provide higher levels of control.

GEA’s Hold-Up/Hold-Down system, in combination with an optimised die design, prevents tablet lamination or capping, and features such as die wall and punch face lubrication are designed to optimize tablet ejection. In addition, proprietary punch holders with bearings rolling on cams mean that ejection forces up to 10 kN can be tolerated. Steel, carbide and ceramic compression tools can be supplied as standard, but the customer is free to use a third-party source. GEA will provide the necessary tool drawings with the press.

Powder processing at its finest

The GEA SRS vibrating screen has been developed for milk and food applications that require hygienic processing to a high standard. It is available in closed and highly hygienic design, designed for continuous operation, has two vibration motors and can be equipped with different screen types and cleaning systems.

It is supplied with one or more large lids for easy access when cleaning, checking or changing the screen bottom. Cleaning-in-place (CIP) compatible versions are available on request.

GEA offers a wide range of high-quality screens, which can be manufactured to exact dimensions and customer specifications and delivered at short notice.

Supply of turnkey plant for spray drying of lignosulfonate

The production of value-added products from renewable raw materials is one of Borregaard's core competencies. GEA is supplying the Norwegian advanced biorefinery company with a turnkey plant for the spray drying of lignosulfonate in the double-digit million range.

The solution also includes a new silo for feeding stored powder materials into the plant's packaging system and a large wet scrubber for dust removal. The entire process solution will be installed at the Norwegian site in Sarpsborg. Commissioning is scheduled for mid-2019.

The NiSoX-Valve solution from GEA

GEA presented NiSoX-Valve, its homogenisation innovation, at ACHEMA 2018, and the results of the first field study will be available at the customer's premises in time for POWTECH 2019.

Commenting on the study, GEA said: "In the stress test of a real application, it was even possible to exceed the original laboratory results."

The new NiSoX-Valve geometry optimises energy distribution during homogenisation, thereby reducing particle size and significantly improving the homogenization effect.

Held on 9-11 April in Nuremberg, Germany, POWTECH is the leading trade fair for mechanical process engineering, analysis and handling of powder and bulk material.

More than 800 exhibitors and production specialists from all over the world will attend. The event includes six exhibition halls covering 55,400sqm at the POWTECH trade fair in Nuremberg.

The range of products on offer includes basic processes for powder and bulk materials, apparatus engineering and process components, packaging and filling, measurement, control and automation, nanoparticle technology, safety and environmental technology as well as quality control, assurance and management (QC, QA and QM).

An attractive supporting programme with numerous continuing education platforms in the form of special shows, seminars, guided tours and lecture events completes the programme. Around 14,000 trade visitors are expected.

At the POWTECH 2019, the GEA stand will be located in Hall 3, Stand 3-231.
