Vitafoods Europe: L.RD gives vegans support

Published: 10-Apr-2019

The supplement is recommended for vegans to help reduce deficiencies

L-RD will be showcasing its Luzixine product at Vitafoods Europe this year. Luzixine is a 100% natural extract of French alfalfa (Medicago sativa) leaf whose nutrient density makes it very relevant for populations with specific nutritional needs.

The nutritional benefits of Luzixine have been shown in 3 clinical studies conducted in Peru, India and Congo, on populations with specific deficiencies (anaemia or chronic malnutrition).

Rich in proteins, omega 3, calcium, iron, pro-vitamin A, vitamins E, K1, B8, B9, B6, Luzixine is made from sustainable & local farming in the respect of biodiversity, soil and humans.

Minimally processed, this French alfalfa extract is also clean label, GMO-free, gluten-free, vegan and novel food approved.

Vegan hurdles

Although it is definitely possible to achieve good nutrition on a vegan diet, the unfortunate truth is that many don’t achieve it.

Although vegans are still only 2% of consumers, many people are at least trying to reduce their animal product intake. Younger generations (Millennials) are more inclined to pursue this type of diet, which means that the trend is likely here to stay.

In a study published in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, researchers from the Mayo Clinic found a lower intake in calcium, vitamin D, ferritin and vitamin B12 in vegans.

Although the vitamin B12 (a vitamin found only in animal products) deficiency in vegans and vegetarians is well known and its supplementation always recommended by doctors, iron and calcium deficiencies are unknown and rarely taken into account. But they could have consequences on neurologic troubles, anaemia and bones density, among other diseases.

Nutritional benefits

Nutritional benefits of Luzixine:

  • Proteins
    • Luzixine contains between 50-60 % of high-quality proteins
  • Omega 3
    • Luzixine contains 10 % of fats among which half are poly-unsaturated fatty acids (35% Omega 3 and 15% Omega 6). With an Omega 6/Omega 3 ration of 0.5, Luzixine rebalances the omega 3 intake.
  • Calcium
    • With 2,600 mg per 100g, Luzixine has a very high calcium content. In Europe, the recommended daily intake in calcium is 800 mg.
  • Vitamin K
    • Luzixine contains 410 µg of vitamin K per 100g. Vitamin K plays an essential role in bone formation, fixing calcium on bones.
  • Iron
    • Luzixine contains 65 mg of iron particularly bioavailable per 100g. A study conducted in India on 109 anaemic girls showed that Luzixine supplementation was as efficient as a chemical supplement containing 12 times more iron.
  • Other nutrients
    • Luzixine is also rich in vitamins B2, B9, B8, E & B6, and lutein.

Vitafoods will take place on 7-9 May 2019 at Palexpo, Geneva, Switzerland.

At the event, L.RD can be found at booth K53.
