Amai Proteins secures Singapore Food Agency approval for sweet protein sweelin

Published: 27-May-2026

Amai Proteins has received Singapore Food Agency approval for sweelin, making it the first precision fermentation-derived sweet protein approved in Singapore, as the company expands its regulatory footprint in Asia following earlier FDA GRAS status in the US

Amai Proteins has announced its flagship sweet protein, sweelin, has been approved by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for use as a sweetening agent in food and beverage products.

The news comes after the product's FDA GRAS approval in the US and marks the company's expansion into Asia.

sweelin is a next-generation sweet protein that has been designed to reduce sugar while replacing conventional sweeteners.

It can be labelled as "Serendipity Berry Sweet Protein" in the US, supporting consumer-friendly ingredient claims and aligning with the growing demand for clean-label and GLP-1-friendly products.

Singapore has become a global leader in Food Technology Innovation through programmes such as the "30 by 30" initiative.

These programmes aim to meet 30% of the country's nutritional needs locally by 2030, relying on advanced food technologies such as Precision Fermentation and Alternative Proteins.

sweelin — being a sweet protein produced via precision fermentation —strongly aligns with this vision for the country.

With the new SFA approval, sweelin has become the first precision fermentation-derived sweet protein approved in Singapore.

Once the approval is officially published, Amai Proteins says it will be positioned to accelerate its commercial activities and expand engagement with food and beverage manufacturers across Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.

"Receiving regulatory approval for sweelin in Singapore is a defining milestone for Amai Proteins," said Amir Guttman, CEO of Amai Proteins.

"Singapore continues to demonstrate global leadership in food innovation through its forward-looking regulatory framework. We are honoured that sweelin is the first precision fermentation-derived sweet protein approved in this ecosystem."

This approval validates our regulatory strategy and creates exciting opportunities for commercialisation throughout Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.

Amai Proteins added that it is actively engaging with strategic partners and investors across APAC to support commercial rollout and scale-up activities following the regulatory milestone.
