OmniActive launches sleep, stress and mood nutraceuticals, Sleeproot and Zenroot in EU

Published: 16-May-2025

Following the success of both ingredients in the US, OmniActive has launched the valerian and ashwagandha-derived ingredients in select European countries

OmniActive Health Technologies has launched two new specialty ingredients, Sleeproot and Zenroot, throughout Europe.

Catered to sleep, mood and stress management, the standardised botanical solutions are clinically proven and suitable for a wide range of formulation types, including gummies, powders, tablets and capsules.

Sleeproot is a high-potency, melatonin-free valerian root-based sleep health nutraceutical standardised to 2% valerenic acid, while Zenroot is an adaptogenic ashwagandha extract standardised to 1.5% withanolides catered towards stress, mood management and sleep.

The European launch of these ingredients follows their successful launches within the US market.

Catering to stress, mood and sleep

Living in the modern world can be highly stressful, so many consumers are now turning to natural solutions that can help them cope with everything life throws at them.

There is particular interest amongst European consumers, with an estimate from Grandview Research valuing the continent's nutraceutical market at USD $131.9bn in 2024 — with a predicted CAGR of 6.9% in the next five years.

The company attributes this market growth to the increasing focus on preventative health and overall wellbeing, as well as the desire for natural solutions targeting ageing, stress and energy levels.

As stress relief remains a key trend in the nutraceutical market, so does mood management, since the two are intimately linked.

Sleep quality also contributes significantly to both stress levels and mood, so taking a comprehensive approach that targets all three areas for overall psychological wellbeing could be a great step forward for a supplement formulator.

What does the research say?

To assess how each ingredient can benefit the psychological wellbeing of users, OmniActive conducted some clinical studies on both products.

Sleeproot

When testing the efficacy of Sleeproot, researchers found that the valerian extract could increase sleep duration from day 1.

The randomised, placebo-controlled study published in Advances in Complementary & Alternative Medicine also found that daily supplementation with Sleeproot could lead to the shortening of time it takes to fall asleep by day three, with participants waking up feeling refreshed and subjectively less anxious.

Results also indicated that Sleeproot can significantly enhance overall sleep satisfaction when taken nightly before bed.

The nutraceutical is also highly potent at 2% valerenic acid, while typical products on the market generally standardised to 0.4–0.8%.

Due to its high potency, the ingredient can also be given at a small dose.

Zenroot

After assessing the efficacy of a 125mg daily dose of Zenroot, OmniActive found that the ingredient can reduce feelings of occasional stress and anxiety.

It has also been shown to support a more consistent positive mood and improve overall sleep quality.

The results of this study will likely be published later this year, according to the company.

“Bringing Sleeproot and Zenroot to the European market is a key priority for us, as we're keen to deepen our presence within this lucrative market, noted Kratika Gupta, Senior VP of Global Marketing at OmniActive.

“By launching these two products throughout Europe, we can meet consumer demand for natural solutions targeting mental wellness, while allowing our business partners to innovate confidently," Gupta concluded.

OmniActive will be on hand at booth 4J27 at Vitafoods Europe 2025 to showcase these ingredients, as well as its other branded ingredient solutions and botanical actives.
