Shaheen Majeed delivered the welcome address, offered the vote of thanks, and provided insights on the globally evolving IP landscape, the power of intellectual property, and strategies for sustainable growth. During the inaugural session of the event, he shared the stage with Prof. Unnat Pandit, Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks, Indian Patent Office—Govt. of India, where Majeed emphasised the importance of IP, “On World Intellectual Property Day, we celebrate the power of ideas—those that shape industries, inspire change, and deserve protection in a diverse and dynamic ecosystem.”

He also participated in a session alongside Prof. Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, and senior officials from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser. The session marked the release of the report titled, “Evaluation of Innovation Excellence Indicators – Report on Public Funded R&D Organisations.” The report presents a comprehensive analysis of innovation indicators, research contributions by publicly funded R&D institutions across India, performance assessments based on key parameters, and a strategic roadmap to enhance outcomes from these labs. Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), delivered the keynote address, highlighting India’s progress within the dynamic global patent landscape.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India, partnering Industry, Government and civil society through advisory and consultative processes. CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organisation, with 9,000 members from the private and public sectors, and an indirect membership of over 365,000 enterprises from 294 national and regional sectoral industry bodies. Shaheen serves as Vice-Chair of the CII National Committee on Intellectual Property, which is made up of leaders from various sectors of Indian Industry, recommends policy, educates stakeholders, furthers best practices, and organises IP issues discussion platforms.
