European Association of Chicory Inulin Producers launches new website

The members of the European Association of Chicory Inulin Producers (Comité Européen des Fabricants d’Inuline (CEFI)) have announced the launch of a new website, www.chicoryinulin.eu.

CEFI represents the leading manufacturers of chicory inulin: COSUCRA, BENEO and SENSUS.

Together they cooperate as a non-profit organisation on regulatory topics in the area of health, nutrition and sustainability both in the EU and in other regions. CEFI members stand for the sustainable cultivation of chicory as a source of soluble fibres.

Eric Bosly, board member of CEFI and CEO at COSUCRA, said: “Scientific community, health professionals and food industry have already recognised chicory root fibres, inulin and oligofructose as superior ‘prebiotic’ fibres based on the large amount of scientific evidences. Having a non-profit organisation like ISAPP (International Scientific Association for Pro- and Prebiotics) was already the right step to make all stakeholders aware of the difference between prebiotic fibres and non-fibre prebiotics."

"This new website will allow us to go one step further in sharing the latest science on health benefits of prebiotic chicory fibres as a non-profit organisation with all professionals in food, health and nutrition, as well as regulatory authorities,” Bosly added.

The science and regulations

Many countries have already recognised health-related claims for chicory root fibres to be applied on food and beverage as well as on dietary supplements. The EU approved for instance through an Art 13.5 health claim for improving bowel regularity with chicory root fibres. This allows consumers to choose for the right dietary fibres in their quest to improve their digestive health and overall well-being.

This new website communicates on scientific evidence to substantiate health benefits of the prebiotic chicory fibres including on digestive health, blood glucose management, bone health, weight management, immunity and more.
