Lantmännen launches Swedish pea protein isolate NordPea

The new plant-based protein ingredient will be manufactured at Lantmännen’s €100m facility in Lidköping, Sweden, which can process up to 40,000 tonnes of peas and faba beans annually

Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmännen has launched NordPea, a premium pea protein isolate developed to meet growing demand for sustainable, high-quality plant-based ingredients.

The ingredient has been developed through a collaboration between Lantmännen and US-based ingredient supplier Ingredion, with the companies working together to improve the availability of competitive, sustainably produced plant proteins.

NordPea will be manufactured at Lantmännen’s new €100m plant protein facility in Lidköping, south-west Sweden.

The site will have the capacity to process approximately 40,000 tonnes of peas and faba beans annually.

The ingredient is designed for use in a range of plant-based food applications, including dairy alternatives and will be produced through a vertically integrated supply chain.

Lantmännen will source peas from its cooperative farmers in Sweden, who grow the crops in line with the organisation’s agricultural and sustainability standards.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s climate investment programme has also supported the Lidköping facility.

Lantmännen will officially introduce NordPea at Food Ingredients Europe 2026, held in Frankfurt, Germany, from 17-19 November.

The ingredient will feature in the event’s New Product Zone, while Lantmännen and Ingredion will deliver a joint presentation on pea protein in the Exhibitor Showcase Theatre on 17 November.

Fredrik Krook, Managing Director Biorefineries at Lantmännen, commented: “We look forward to introducing NordPea to visitors at Food Ingredients Europe."

Pea protein is an increasingly popular choice for food and beverage manufacturers in Europe and NordPea will help to satisfy this growing demand with a high-quality ingredient produced in a sustainable manner.
