Tie-up to strengthen academia-industry relations for production and promotion of clinically safe ayurvedic medicines

The School of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences of Lovely Professional University (LPU) and one of the leading ayurvedic pharma companies, Shree Dhanwantri Herbals, have entered a collaboration to produce and promote ayurvedic products not only in India, but across the globe. The pharma company is already producing and exporting dozens of herbal and ayurvedic medicines in many countries.

As part of the collaboration LPU researchers will draw up literature for the promotion of ayurvedic products, as ayurvedic medicines are believed by some to be an effective, reliable alternative to modern day medicines. This tie-up is also aimed at strengthening the relationship between academia and industry, and a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by Managing Director of Shree Dhanwantri Herbals Dr J P Singh and LPU Sr Dean Dr Monica Gulati.

'Under this collaboration, LPU students will pursue important research projects to further enhance acceptability of herbal, ayurvedic and nutraceutical products, as aloe-vera has already been identified and accepted all over the world,' said LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal.

'LPU students will also create a literature in this regard for awakening an awareness among people around the world of the great utility of age-old ayurvedic implementations of India in the health sector.'

Dr Singh added: 'This collaboration is very important as a huge demand for research-orientated students in Ayurvedic Pharmacy is now being recognised. There are more than 9000 ayurvedic companies in India and demand for ayurvedic products is increasing day by day not only in India, but across the world.

'We realize that for the preparation and development of quality herbal formulations, there should be an effective academia-industry interface to promote strenuous research. I am sure this tie-up will result in development of efficacious, safe, cost-effective and elegant ayurvedic medicines.'

Shree Dhanwantri Herbals manufactures about 300 patent/proprietary and classical drugs, health products, natural gums, herbal extracts and more. Its products are being supplied to regular domestic market, NGOs, central government institutions, hospitals and state health organisations.
