A recent study published in Frontiers in Nutrition has shown that CETO3® fish oil, rich in Omega-11 (Cetoleic acid), decreased plasma levels of total fat (-58%), triglycerides (-55%), total cholesterol (-41%), and LDL-cholesterol (-45%), while increasing the HDL/LDL-cholesterol ratio (46%) during the 10-week trial. Additionally, CETO3® supplementation led to increased hepatic and plasma levels of long-chain n-3, n-9, and n-11 MUFAs, including C22:1n-11, and decreased n-6 FA accumulation, suggesting an anti-inflammatory effect.
“We have seen a positive effect on CETO3® Omega-11’s ability to reduce cholesterol, an area where Omega-3 (EPA and DHA) has shown little or no effects,” says Chief Innovation Officer Stig Jansson. He continues, “In humans, a 3% reduction of total cholesterol alone can reduce the cardiovascular risk by 15%.”
The study was conducted at the University Hospital Haukeland in Bergen, Norway.
Also last year, a clinical Omega-3 index study with CETO3® was published. Conducted by Mike Wakeman, a researcher from the University of Sunderland, the study found that CETO3® Omega-11 significantly stimulated the body’s own production of EPA/DHA compared to the fish oil group. The published study shows that the CETO3® EPA/DHA pro-rata efficiency is 68% better than for standard fish oil.
“CETO3® Omega-11 is now launched in several key nutraceutical markets, so consumer education on the health benefits of Omega-11/Cetoleic acid has started. We continue to invest in science on CETO3® Omega-11, as well as Norwegian seafood research funds’ investments into documentation of Omega-11/Cetoleic acid,” says Henrik Traaholt, Chief Commercial Officer.
CETO3® is produced by immediate processing from fresh fish into oil in less than 30 minutes. This gives CETO3® Omega-11 & Omega-3 products a unique sensory quality and eliminates fishy reflux, which broadens the applications for usage from capsules to liquid formulations. CETO3® Omega-11 is derived from North Atlantic pelagic fish, harvested and produced in Norway in a low-carbon footprint operation. Cetoleic acid/Omega-11 is found in high value in North Atlantic pelagic fish.
CETO3® will exhibit at booth #3714 at Supply Side Global on 29–30 October.
