OmniActive's chairman receives lifetime achievement award at International Spice Conference

Jayasinh V. Mariwala, Chairman, OmniActive Health Technologies, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions in innovating and growing the spice industry at the International Spice Conference on 21 January in Goa, India.

'I am deeply honoured to have my life’s work recognised by the delegates of this globally renowned and respected conference,' stated Mariwala. Held by the All India Spices Exporters Forum and The Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the 4-day conference brings together 500 representatives from more than 35 countries to address the challenges faced by the spice market and uncover their solutions.

Mariwala joined his family business in 1956. Since then, his name has been closely associated with many important firsts of the spices industry in India, including being a member of the Spices Export Promotion Council since its inception and its chairman in 1979.

Mariwala was also the first Vice President of the Spices Board, developed by the Government of India, and was also selected as a special delegate to negotiate with the USFDA on an agreement between the US and India to implement a quality control programme. The International Pepper Community also tasked Mariwala to draft their IPC Pepper contract used for international trade.

Mariwala went on to express his thoughts on the spice industry by saying: 'Receiving this illustrious award has reminded me of how much the industry has prospered during my career, and I am eager to witness its continued expansion into new markets and growth.'

Currently, along with OmniActive Health Technologies, Ltd, Mariwala is also chair of Vallabhdas Kanji, Ltd. and Auto Hangar (India) Pvt, Ltd. Mariwala has managed the Bhatia Hospital for the past 12 years and continues to be a trustee, as well as being actively involved in various educational institutions including New Era School, M.K.N. Bhatia School and Swa-roopwardhinee, Pune, as a trustee and board of management member.
