PLT develops verification project for Rhodiola rosea L.

PLT Health Solutions partner with Botanical Liaisons, LLC and NaturPro Scientific, LLC to develop an ingredient identity verification programme for Rhodiolife Rhodiola rosea L.

Rhodiolife is a standardised extract of rhodiola rosea, sustainably harvested from the Altai Mountains of Siberia. Despite the unpredictable supply environment, PLT Health Solutions supply commercial quantities of this ingredient from its USA inventory. In 2017, the American Botanical Council published a bulletin entitled Adulteration of Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) Rhizome, Root and Extracts.

The report, authored by top natural products experts, outlined that less expensive Rhodiola species grown in China were commonly added to the intended species, resulting in its adulteration.

Anticipating the growing problem with high quality Rhodiola supply, PLT Health Solutions partnered with two ingredient identity and traceability firms - Botanical Liaisons, LLC and NaturPro Scientific, LLC to develop an ingredient identity verification programme for Rhodiolife Rhodiola rosea L. Verification of Rhodiolife identity was based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including supplier verification, chain of custody review and identity testing using HPLC and DNA testing. The verification project was announced 26 October 2017.

Only Rhodiolife's unique 'fingerprint' composition consistently provides the spectrum of compounds found in the root of the plant that is responsible for its biological activity - including rosavin, rosarin, rosin and salidroside. With Rhodiolife, not only is the percentage of the primary actives - rosavin and salidroside - the same as the root, but so is the ratio of actives. This is not true of other Rhodiola rosea ingredients on the market.
