The egg is a nutrient powerhouse, naturally containing a wealth of nutrients in a single source.
However, there is one part of the egg most modern humans rarely consume: the eggshell membrane.
Found between the egg white and the eggshell, this often discarded membrane is a treasure trove of nutrients that support joint and skin health!
The eggshell membrane naturally contains essential components critical to skin, hair, nail, and joint health that are no longer abundant in our modern diets.
These nutrients are: Collagen types I, V, & X, glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid, dermatan sulfate, heparan sulfate, keratan sulfate, sulfur-rich amino acids like methionine and cysteine, as well as vital proteins and peptides such as elastin, desmosine, isodesmosine, ovotransferrin.(1, 2)
Recognising its value, Stratum Nutrition® began studying eggshell membrane over 20 years ago and has since become a global leader in sourcing, studying, and supplying efficacious eggshell membrane ingredients worldwide.
To date, we have upcycled more than 100 million kilograms of eggshells to create health promoting ingredients.
In the past year, Stratum Nutrition expanded its research to explore the benefits of eggshell membrane for skin health.
Unlike joint health, skin health is best supported by unhydrolysed eggshell membrane which is as minimally processed as possible.
To preserve the natural nutrient entourage in eggshell membrane, Stratum Nutrition developed OVOLUX™, as a beauty-from-within ingredient made using only heat and agitation – no chemicals involved.
In the first clinical study on OVOLUX which was published this year, 400 mg of OVOLUX taken daily by healthy men and women significantly improved skin appearance (less fine lines and wrinkles), texture (smoother and softer skin), and overall skin health in as little as 6 weeks compared to placebo.
Participants showed a 24% improvement in skin firmness, along with improved skin elasticity, hydration, and plumpness in just 6 weeks compared to placebo.
Additionally, those taking OVOLUX reported significantly shinier, softer hair with fewer split ends compared to placebo.(3)
Stratum Nutrition continues to lead the way in unlocking the full potential of eggshell membrane.
Our ingredients are always sourced from USDA sourced eggs.
With our dedication, high research and quality standards, we are proud to provide sustainable, upcycled ingredients that support wellness from the inside out.
