Real Mushrooms to acquire legacy brand Mushroom Science

Real Mushrooms, the 100% organic mushroom extracts brand founded in 2015 by fungi pioneer Jeff Chilton and his son Skye, is acquiring the legacy brand Mushroom Science

Both companies have a long history of advocating for transparency in mushroom product labelling, including potency and proper extraction for health benefits delivery.

Founded by the late John Seleen, 31 years ago, Mushroom Science has been offering its customers pure and effective functional mushroom supplements since 1994.

It was the first brand to educate consumers about the difference between products made from mushrooms and those that are mycelium-fermented grain.

Both companies have long-standing relationships with mushroom growers in China, where mushroom growing has been both an art and a science for many hundreds of years.

“I first met John Seleen at the International Society for Mushroom Science conference in China in 1989,” Jeff Chilton said. “As an accomplished mushroom cultivator, John understood the economics and realised the importance of sourcing mushrooms from China."


"He was a pioneer of the functional mushroom category and was dedicated to product quality, appropriately naming his company Mushroom Science and utilising analytical testing to ensure the benefits of his products."

Mushroom Science products are sold direct-to-consumer by natural products retailers and through practitioners.

Real Mushrooms are sold direct-to-consumer and through healthcare practitioners.
