Food tech startup TurtleTree’s precision-fermented lactoferrin ingredient, LF+, has received a “no questions” letter from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), recognising the product as GRAS.
According to TurtleTree, LF+ is the first lactoferrin nutraceutical produced by precision fermentation that has been approved by a regulatory body globally.
This approval means that US manufacturers in the functional food, beverage and supplement spaces can now use the vegan ingredient in their formulations freely.
To find out more about the approval, TurtleTree’s sustainable precision fermentation technology and how it can facilitate the cost-effective production of animal-free lactoferrin, we caught up with Fengru Lin, CEO of TurtleTree.
