The cheese whey-derived ingredient boosts the nutritional value of infant formula products, supports a child's cognitive development and acts as an antiviral

FrieslandCampina Ingredients has received approval for its infant milk formula ingredient, Vivinal MFGM, in Thailand. 

The milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) whey-derived ingredient can now be incorporated into both milk formulas and food products in the country. 

The TFDA came to this decision through a three-year evaluation of the product, which has been found to support an infant's cognitive development. 

 

About Vivinal MFGM

Vivinal MFGM is a cheese whey-derived protein concentrate, which FrieslandCampina Ingredients obtains through genle processing.

Through this procedure, the resulting product contains proteins, lipids, lactoferrin and immunoglobulin G, which can help support a baby's natural cognitive development. 

An in vitro study has also found that Vivinal MFGM can exhibit an antiviral effect, highlighting the ingredient's potential to support a child's immune health. 

Through this approval, FrieslandCampina Ingredients can now offer Vivinal MFGM in a wide range of infant food applications — allowing it to cater to the growing demand for functional ingredients within early-life formula products.

Notably, 74% of novel infant milk formulas released to the market contained at leaast on bioactive ingredient, suggesting that companies are acknowledging the need to go above and beyond when creating infant formulations.
