Botanical slows ageing in novel study

Mibelle's scarlet beebalm extract, MonaJuventa Nu, slowed biological ageing, stress-associated cortisol levels and sleep index across a 12 week period

A novel study has found that 100mg of MonaJuventa Nu per day can significantly slow down ageing.

The research, which was led by longevity and epigenetic expert Prof. Sofia Pavanello, reveals that MonaJuventa Nu is one of the first botanical ingredients to demonstrate anti-ageing effects to this extent in a clinical trial.

The efficacy of MonaJuventa Nu has been demonstrated in an innovative study at the BioAgingLab of the Department of Cardio-, Thoraco- and Vascular Sciences and Public Health (DSCTV) of the University of Padua in Italy.

In a randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel design, monocentric clinical trial, 81 participants aged 45-65 with self-reported stressful jobs received either 100 mg MonaJuventa Nu or placebo once a day for a period of 12 weeks.

The study revealed significant improvements in various parameters associated with healthy ageing:

  • Significantly prevented epigenetic ageing as measured by stable DNAmAge values while values in the placebo group significantly increased after 12 weeks
  • Significantly slowing down telomere shortening rate (leukocyte telomere length (LTL)  increased in the verum group while it decreased in the placebo group) after 12 weeks
  • Reduced cortisol levels by 25% compared to placebo
  • Enhanced Quality of Life (QOL) while QOL decreased in the placebo group
  • Significantly increased physical activity and improved sleep index

Remarkably, during the duration of the study, participants taking 100 mg MonaJuventa Nu daily showed an increase in biological age of only 0.3 years compared to 1.8 years in the placebo group. This striking result highlights MonaJuventa Nu's powerful ability to slow down rapid ageing,  especially for those in high-stress professions.

Trial participants showed significant improvements in molecular biomarkers of biological ageing and  overall quality of life. The beneficial effect of MonaJuventa Nu on quality of life was evident from wearable device data, showing significant improvements in sleep quality and physical activity. Also, biochemical tests indicated positive effects on inflammatory and renal parameters.

Additionally, in vitro tests demonstrated that MonaJuventa Nu significantly slows down the ageing process by preventing epigenetic ageing, telomere shortening, accumulation of senescent cells, protecting cells from oxidative stress, and improving mitochondrial and endothelial function.

Dr. Torsten Grothe, Head of Food and Health at Mibelle Biochemistry, added: “Through extensive  screening of various plants for epigenetic ageing activity, we identified Monarda didyma as the most  potent ingredient. MonaJuventa Nu, rich in the anti-ageing flavonoid didymin, stands out as the first  botanical known to impact key ageing processes, effectively countering nine of the twelve hallmarks of aging. The Monarda didyma raw material used in MonaJuventa Nu is organically grown at  carefully selected farms in Austria and Switzerland.”

Torsten concluded that "our study fits perfectly into the booming active ageing and longevity market,  showcasing an innovative, natural and safe active ingredient, which tackles several key processes involved in healthy ageing, contributing to longevity.”

MonaJuventa Nu is an innovative ingredient with extraordinary and unique abilities to promote  longevity and healthy ageing suitable for a wide range of product applications such as healthy ageing supplements, products aimed at rejuvenation and longevity, or mitochondrial boosting. MonaJuventa Nu is available as an easy to formulate powder with a pleasant herbal taste.
