Safe ARA oils for infant formula: innovative new process eliminates bacterial toxin

Back in February, the detection of the bacterial toxin cereulide in baby formula from several European manufacturers led to a loss of consumer confidence and a wave of product recalls.

The contamination was derived from oils from a Chinese manufacturer that contained arachidonic acid (ARA). It was presumably caused by flaws in the manufacturing process, as well as gaps in analytical procedures and HACCP concepts.

Using adapted refining steps, Nutriswiss AG has completed studies that eliminate this persistent contamination hazard.
