NOW launches GLP-1 Metabolic Support supplement with Metabolaid and Reducose

The firm has launched a metabolic health supplement combining Metabolaid, Reducose and berberine HCl to support post-meal glucose responses, appetite regulation and muscle maintenance, as nutraceutical brands increasingly target the body’s natural GLP-1 pathways

NOW has launched its new GLP-1 Metabolic Support, developed to support healthy post-meal glucose responses, help moderate appetite and support muscle maintenance.

The supplement contains two main botanical ingredients: Metabolaid, sourced from Monteloeder and dosed at 500 mg, and Reducose, sourced from Phynova and dosed at 222 mg.

It pairs these with 250 mg of berberine HCl derived from Berberis aristata bark.

The company said that the formulation works complementarily to support healthy glucose metabolism, the body’s natural GLP-1 response and appetite regulation.

Metabolaid, developed by Monteloeder S.L., is a patented botanical blend of lemon verbena (Aloysia citriodora) leaf extract and hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) flower extract.

More than ten years of research, including eight clinical studies with more than 450 participants, has explored its benefits for appetite regulation and metabolic health, with results showing that Metabolaid supplementation was associated with increased GLP-1 levels.

Research has also reported improvements in hunger reduction, desire for sweet foods and meal satisfaction.NOW launches GLP-1 Metabolic Support supplement with Metabolaid and Reducose

Metabolaid has also been studied for its effects on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), an enzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism, as well as its potential role in supporting a balanced gut microbiome.

Reducose — developed by Phynova — is a patented extract from the white mulberry (Morus alba) leaf, standardised to contain at least 4.5% 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ).

DNJ inhibits alpha-glucosidase, an enzyme that digests carbohydrates, helping to support healthy glucose and insulin responses after meals.

Clinical studies indicate that Reducose moderates post-meal glucose and insulin levels after carbohydrate consumption, supporting healthy carbohydrate metabolism.

Additionally, Berberine HCl, derived from Berberis aristata bark, complements Reducose. Berberine is a botanical compound studied for its benefits in supporting normal glucose utilisation, insulin sensitivity and healthy lipid metabolism.

GLP-1 interest drives new wave of metabolic health supplements

The rise of GLP-1 medicines for weight management is creating new opportunities for the nutraceutical industry, with brands increasingly launching supplements designed to support the body's natural appetite-regulation pathways.

Rather than focusing solely on traditional weight-loss claims, these products are targeting mechanisms including satiety, cravings, post-meal glucose responses and metabolic health.

Ingredients such as botanical extracts, fibres and microbiome-targeted compounds are being positioned around their potential to influence endogenous GLP-1 production and related metabolic processes.

The trend reflects growing consumer awareness of the biology behind appetite and weight management, as well as demand for non-prescription approaches to these concerns.

NOW's GLP-1 Metabolic Support follows similar launches, including Standard Process's MediHerb GLP-1 herbal supplement, highlighting how ingredient suppliers and finished-product brands are responding to the emerging category.

However, while research into ingredients that influence gut-hormone signalling is developing, supplements that support the body's natural GLP-1 response should not be equated with prescription GLP-1 medicines, which have distinct pharmacological effects and clinical evidence.
