Probi celebrates 35 years of science and a new chapter with Symrise

Together, the companies are creating new opportunities to accelerate research, expand innovation and bring new and exciting biotic solutions to customers and consumers around the world

Global biotics specialist Probi, part of the Symrise Group, is celebrating two major milestones this year: 35 years of scientific innovation and reaching more than 300 scientific publications supporting the benefits of the clinically documented probiotic strain Lactiplantibacillus. plantarum 299v (LP299V).

“What began as a pioneering research project at Lund University in the 1980s has evolved into one of the industry's most science-driven biotics companies,” says Isabelle Ducellier, Global VP, Health, Care & Wellness at Symrise.

Founded in 1991 following the discovery of LP299V, Probi has spent three and a half decades advancing the understanding of how probiotics and other biotics can support human health.

Although LP299V remains one of the most researched probiotic strains on the market, Probi's portfolio now spans multiple health areas, including digestive, immune, metabolic, women's, oral, sport & active and cognitive health.

“With more than 450 scientific publications across all strains overall, Probi has built one of the industry's most extensive bodies of evidence supporting clinically documented biotic solutions.” Ducellier notes.

These milestones come at a defining moment in Probi's journey.

Following its acquisition by Symrise in 2025, the company is entering an exciting new phase of growth by combining Probi's deep expertise in biotics with Symrise's global reach, innovation capabilities and leadership in health and wellness.

"For 35 years, science has been the foundation of everything we do at Probi. Joining Symrise Group has given us an unprecedented opportunity to build on that legacy, accelerate innovation across the biotics category and bring clinically proven solutions to more people around the world," Ducellier says.

“Recent advances in cognitive and metabolic health, award-winning innovation in women's health, strategic partnerships with BLIS Technologies and Clasado Biosciences, and the launch of the postbiotic solution Rham271h, demonstrate Probi's continued momentum as it expands beyond probiotics and helps shape the future of the biotics category,” Ducellier concludes.

As Probi looks to the future, it is uniquely positioned to help drive the next era of innovation in biotics.
