Thorne targets GLP-1 users and athletes with new Protein Optimizer

The new probiotic-enzyme formula targets the gut-muscle axis, aiding protein digestion for athletes, plant-based dieters and GLP-1 users

Thorne has launched its Protein Optimizer, a probiotic and enzymatic supplement designed to improve digestion and absorption of dietary protein rather than deliver additional protein itself.

Each capsule delivers at least three billion active cultures, combining 20 mg of Bacillus coagulans SNZ 1969, a clinically studied spore-forming strain, with 21 mg of Thorne's patented Mycohsa blend.

Mycohsa brings together Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium breve, Saccharomyces boulardii and the digestive enzyme amylase.

The formula is built around the gut-muscle axis — the link between gastrointestinal health, nutrient absorption and muscle function.

Thorne has explicitly named GLP-1 users among its core target groups, a cohort the nutraceutical industry has watched closely as appetite-suppressant use grows and muscle-loss concerns rise alongside it.

Appetite suppression from GLP-1 drugs typically reduces overall food and protein intake, a dynamic increasingly linked to lean muscle loss and a growing concern among formulators, clinicians and the weight-management supplement category alike.

Rather than adding more protein to the diet, Protein Optimizer is designed to help the body make better use of what's already consumed.

The company says the combination supports amino acid absorption, microbiome balance, bowel regularity and gut-barrier integrity, while helping offset digestive side effects such as gas and bloating that can accompany high-protein diets.

Thorne is also positioning the product across other nutraceutical growth segments: athletes and active consumers seeking improved post-workout recovery and plant-based dieters needing support absorbing complete proteins.

Importantly, the new Protein Optimizer is NSF Certified for Sport — a quality marker likely to appeal to Thorne's practitioner and elite-athlete customer base.
